As economy is advancing by leaps and bounds, people in increasing number are equipped with enough financial ability to afford extremely luxurious family celebrations such as weddings and birthdays. Under this circumstance, an absolute consensus can hardly be reached whether dedicating a large amount of money to such activities is a blessing or a curse. I will make an objective analysis of this argument in my following essay.

Some people harbor the belief that it is of paramount importance in obtaining memorable significance to guarantee the successful holding of some family events with plenty of money. A typical case in point is that holding a wonderful wedding ceremony is only once in one’s lifetime so that the importance of enormous fund investment in ensuring its smooth operation can never be exaggerated. In addition, not only does sufficient fund improve the effects of the activity, but also enhances the well-being of the sponsor and participants.

However，others maintain that this practice is likely to trigger the blind comparison in consumption. To be specific, a recent survey conducted by China Daily indicates that more than 40% of poverty-stricken families will fall into a debt due to a decent wedding. If such money is devoted to educational development of young people, more practical benefits will be obtained in the years to come undoubtedly. Not to mention that when children’s excessive desires cannot be satisfied by their parents, it will give rise to more disputes, conflicts and even hostilities among family members, which is the least thing we would expect to see.

From my own perspective, I side with the stance of the latter to a larger extent, believing that everything should be performed according to one’s own financial situation. As long as the expenses of holding family celebrations can be shouldered without any burden, it does not matter to have an extravagant event. However, people ought to keep it in mind constantly that mutual companion and common experience of family members are of greater significance than fund investment. In any case, they are not supposed to put the cart before the horse.
